Cannabis Seed FAQs

Seed labels can raise as many questions as they answer. Here is a plain-language guide to cannabis seed types, comparing varieties, keeping your seeds, and ordering from Grassfarmer.

Start with the basics

Understanding cannabis seed types

What is the difference between feminized and regular cannabis seeds?

Feminized seeds are bred to produce female plants. Regular seeds can produce both male and female plants; a pack does not promise an exact ratio. These labels describe seed sex characteristics, not a quality ranking. Compare our feminized and regular seed collections.

What does autoflowering mean?

Autoflowering plants begin flowering as they mature, rather than depending on a change in day length. The term describes a flowering trait, not the sex of the seed. See our autoflowering collection for the available varieties.

What are photoperiod seeds?

Photoperiod varieties respond to the length of the day and night when transitioning to flowering. This is a different flowering pattern from autoflowering. Check the seed type and flowering information on each photoperiod product listing.

Can a seed be both feminized and autoflowering?

Yes. Feminized describes the intended sex of the resulting plants, while autoflowering describes how flowering begins. The two labels can apply to the same variety. Read both attributes when comparing products.

Are regular seeds the same as photoperiod seeds?

No. Regular refers to the potential for male and female plants; photoperiod refers to flowering in response to day length. The terms answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably.

What is the difference between a strain name and a seed type?

A strain name identifies a named variety or line. Seed type describes traits such as feminized, regular, or autoflowering. Similar names can appear on different products, so compare the full listing rather than relying on the name alone.

Before you choose

Choosing and keeping your seeds

How do I compare two cannabis seed varieties?

Start with the listed seed type and flowering type, then compare the product attributes and available pack sizes. Read the description for context and check the selected option before adding it to your cart. If a detail you need is missing, ask us rather than assuming it.

Are flowering times, heights, and yields guaranteed?

No. Treat these figures as descriptions or estimates for the variety, not a promise for every individual plant. Genetics and conditions can affect the result. Our germination guarantee concerns seed germination, not a particular height, harvest date, or yield.

Will every seed in a pack produce an identical plant?

Not necessarily. Seed-grown plants can vary within a named variety. A shared name or description does not mean that every plant will have identical characteristics.

Can I tell whether a seed is viable from its color or size?

Appearance alone cannot confirm viability. Seeds naturally vary in size, color, and markings, and a small or pale seed is not automatically a failed seed. If your order arrives visibly crushed or damaged, contact us with your order ID and a photo of the packaging and seeds.

Can I identify a feminized or autoflowering seed by looking at it?

No reliable visual check of a loose seed can confirm those traits. Keep the original packaging and labels so you can identify the variety and seed type.

How should I store cannabis seeds?

Keep seeds cool, dry, and dark, protected from moisture and large temperature changes. Retain the original labeled packaging, and avoid repeatedly exposing stored seeds to warm, humid air. Follow any storage guidance supplied with your pack.

How long can cannabis seeds be stored?

There is no single shelf life that applies to every seed. Initial condition, age, moisture, and storage conditions all affect viability over time. Keep the packet information and purchase record rather than treating appearance or age alone as a guarantee.

Shopping with Grassfarmer

Orders, delivery, and support

Why does a product show a “from” price?

A product with several pack options may show its lowest available price in the catalog. Select the pack size on the product page to see the price for that option. Check the chosen pack and quantity in your cart before placing the order.

How many seeds are in a pack?

Pack sizes vary by product. The option selector on the product page lists the available sizes; the quantity in your cart is the number of those packs, not the number of individual seeds.

Which payment methods does Grassfarmer accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, ACH or wire transfer, Interac e-Transfer, Venmo, payment by mail, and USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20). Instructions for methods that require a separate transfer are supplied by email. See Ordering and payment for processing times and full details.

Where do you ship, and is delivery guaranteed?

We ship worldwide, with guaranteed delivery to the USA, Canada, the European Union, and the UK. Other destinations are outside that guarantee; an optional Reshipment Guarantee offers one replacement at 25% of the original order amount if the initial shipment does not arrive. Read Shipping and delivery for the terms and destination-specific service.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Timing depends on the destination and service. Published estimates include 3–10 business days within the USA, 5–15 business days to Canada, 2–6 business days within the EU, and 7–15 business days to the UK, after dispatch. Payment processing is separate. Other destinations may take longer; see the full delivery guide.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes. We send a tracking number after dispatch. If an order is outside its estimated delivery window, email your order ID to support@grassfarmer.com so we can investigate with the carrier.

What happens if my seeds do not germinate?

Our germination guarantee covers eligible seeds purchased directly from Grassfarmer when the packet directions are followed. Contact us after the full germination period with your order details, variety, and failed seed count. Claims must be made within 30 days after that period ends and within 12 months of purchase. See the policy for eligibility, exclusions, and replacement or refund details.

Can I cancel an order I have already paid for?

Email support@grassfarmer.com with your order ID. If it has not shipped, we can cancel and refund it. If it has shipped, it must be returned to our warehouse for a refund, and you cover return shipping. Read Ordering and payment before arranging a return.
